Prof. Panagiotis (Panos) Papaioannou is a Transportation Engineer and Economist with 43 years of professional experience. He is Emeritus Professor at the Transport Section, School of Civil Engineering at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece. He has been Chairman of the Public Transport Authority of Thessaloniki (THEPTA) from March 2010 to January 2013 representing the Greek Minister for Transport. He has also been Director of the Postgraduate Programme in Transport Systems at the University of Thessaloniki from 2016 to 2018. Prof. Papaioannou has been involved as Coordinator, Team leader or Key Expert in 100+ European Union projects and in transport consulting services/studies in the last two decades addressing transport research and policy issues as well as transport planning, travel behaviour and road safety topics. He is active in the sustainable mobility and SUMP concept since 2009. He served as the focal point in Greece for the European Platform on Mobility Management (EPOMM) in the period 2009-2016 and for the SUMP-GR network (2013-2016).
